2nd Board Meeting

We just had our first dance event for the elderly at the Club. It was a total disaster. This lady (one of the director and let’s call her Eva) whose self proclaim that she is IN CHARGE of the kitchen was not very organize in the meal line-up. She had people walked back and forth the line to get food and cutleries. There were drinks and deserts spilled all over the floor. Some elderly even stood there with the dinner trays not knowing what and where to go even I was there to help. I saw some elderly men were eating the cookies while they were filling their plates. I couldn’t say anything because she told me that she is IN CHARGED! Well, I brought this up at our second meeting last night and unfortunately the President is a good friend of hers. We as the Directors are allow to have two free drinks each event because of the time we donated to help out. Eva’s husband abused it by giving wine to her friends FREE (Perry/Ferella, KC/Shirley) and were caught by the vice-president that night. Of course, it was brought up at the meeting but the vice-president didn’t mention her name in courtesy but would like the Board keep track of all free drinks. That got turned down because the President herself loves her drinks and kept insisted that the drinks are not in retail price so therefore it doesn’t really cost the Club that much! I responded to this concern should be a matter of honesty and trust and we shouldn’t abuse it! The vice-president was so concerned of herself, she taped every Board Meeting just to cover herself in case of a lawsuit. This experience really open my eyes sadly say!

Sounds like your group is more interested in playing politics than holding good events. But at the same time, recognize that this is how things work sometimes. For yourself, don't take such a hardline about free drinks; in the grand scheme of things, those are small peanuts. For everybody, just make sure you keep the focus on how to do such events better in the future, instead of chastizing them for things they did terribly in the past. It's kind of the same thing, but from the opposite point of view.

(See? I read your blog.)
