What kind of Appreciation Day is this?

I received an e-mail this morning and it read:

Hello All,

Apparently there have been a few of us ( such as myself ) that declined this invitation to the Appreciation Breakfast meeting. Unfortunately I have been informed by The Chief that attendance is not optional and that if you are scheduled to work on this day ( September 13) you are required to attend this meeting. So unless you are on vacation or sick please clear your calendars to attend the meeting.
